Chat

Chat is Pioneer's first-class engineering workspace. It combines conversation, bounded tools, attachments, durable evidence, and explicit approvals. Canvas awareness adds Flow competency; it does not define the limits of Chat.

General engineering work

Use Chat to inspect a repository, reason about data, query structured files and SQLite, inspect Git state, apply conflict-aware source patches when requested, and run bounded build, lint, or typecheck verification. Available tools and their effects are visible in Settings → Tools.

Chat reports tool output as evidence and its interpretation as inference. It does not turn a recommendation into a mutation without an explicit request and the required authority.

Flow-aware work

When Canvas is open, Chat can receive bounded current-draft context: block and connection structure, selection, dirty state, current Saved Flow identity, and current run identity when available. It can inspect Saved Flows and explicit runs, diagnose a failure, propose a guarded amendment, and carry an explicitly approved workflow through apply, rerun, and comparison.

Chat does not silently save a draft-only repair or pick an unspecified “latest” run when stable run identity is required.

Durable and transient state

Conversation and tool events are persisted under the session ID. Reopening a session reconstructs readable replay and a compact context bridge, but it does not recreate every in-memory agent object, lock, pending approval, model process, or exact prompt message from before a backend restart.

See Sessions for continuity details and Human Authority for approvals.
