Installation
These instructions install the current repository development build. Pioneer is not yet distributed here as a standalone end-user installer.
Prerequisites
- Git;
- Python 3.11 or later;
- Node.js 20 or later with npm; and
- Ollama, only if you want to use local models.
Rust and the Tauri prerequisites are optional. They are needed only for the desktop development shell.
Install the backend and documentation tools
From PowerShell in the repository root:
Set-Location "C:\Users\Owner\repos\pioneer.etl"
python -m venv .venv
& ".\.venv\Scripts\python.exe" -m pip install -e ".[dev,docs]"
The editable install supplies the pioneer package, backend dependencies,
tests, and the MkDocs documentation build.
Install the frontend
Set-Location "C:\Users\Owner\repos\pioneer.etl\frontend"
npm.cmd install
Optional: install Ollama
Install and start the Windows Ollama application using its normal installer. Pioneer does not install Ollama or download a model during ordinary startup or onboarding. Model installation is an explicit operation in Models.
Verify an existing Ollama service with:
Invoke-RestMethod -Uri "http://127.0.0.1:11434/api/version"
A response containing version is sufficient. Do not start a second server if
one already owns the port.
Next: Start Pioneer.
