Your First Chat
Chat is a general engineering harness and a deep Pioneer Flow assistant. You can use it for ordinary software and data work without opening Canvas, or give it the current Canvas context for Flow inspection and repair work.
Send a first message
- Open Chat.
- Choose a completion-capable model from the model control in the composer.
- Enter a bounded request, such as
Explain the files that define this repository's startup path. - Press Enter or choose Send.
- Inspect the streamed response and any visible tool activity before relying on the conclusion.
The composer model is a session/request choice. It does not rewrite the durable profile default in Models. When a new choice supports less context than the current conversation requires, Pioneer keeps the current session unchanged and asks you to keep the model or start a new Chat.
Work with files and workspaces
Use the attachment control to add one or more files, or mount a workspace for bounded tool access. Attachments are stored with the durable Chat evidence. Workspace access remains constrained to the primary workspace and explicit mounts; attaching a location does not grant arbitrary filesystem access.
Read activity and approvals
Tool calls and results appear as structured activity, not as hidden assistant claims. Read-only inspection can proceed without a consequence approval. Operations that mutate state, execute code, affect a remote system, or cross a specific authority boundary can ask you to approve or deny the exact action.
Manual approval shows these decisions as they occur. Autopilot is a request mode, not blanket authority; destructive and remote consequences remain outside automatic approval.
Stop or steer a turn
While Chat is working, the composer can send steering guidance to the active turn. Choose Stop to request cancellation. The UI distinguishes requested, stopping, and cancelled states when the backend can confirm them. Cancellation does not claim that every external side effect was rolled back.
Sessions, context, and artifacts
- The Chat sidebar searches recent durable conversations and can rename, delete, or export the selected conversation.
- View all sessions opens the complete Sessions workspace for replay and exact event evidence.
- The Context indicator shows current usage against Pioneer's resolved session budget. Hover or focus it for model-capacity and source details.
- Large bounded tool results can be retained as artifacts with continuation references. Availability is bounded; an evicted artifact is reported as unavailable rather than reconstructed.
What Chat can claim
Chat may summarize observed files, tools, run evidence, or Memory results. Its diagnosis and recommendations remain MODEL_INFERENCE. Assistant prose is not proof of execution, persistence, or human approval. For exact boundaries, read Evidence & Truth.
